Offense

Holland is an explosive athlete. The first thing that pops out when watching him is his ability to finish in the open floor. He expertly uses every bit of his lean yet strong frame to carve out space in the lane when making plays in transition. Holland’s athleticism is an immediate standout skill, especially because he combines that with his strength and frame to create scoring opportunities at the rim and finish over (and, in some cases, through) contact.

There is real potential for him to grow as an even more lethal downhill threat than he has been, and that skillset at the NBA level looks most transferable, as he projects to generate multiple free-throw opportunities for himself off of rim attacks. Holland’s consistently high motor and ability to get to the rim will help him flourish in early-offense and fast-break situations. He’s also proficient at the free-throw line, which is especially important due to his desired style of play.

At this stage, his spot-up and off-the-dribble shooting leaves a bit to be desired, particularly from three-point range (a paltry 24 percent). He won’t be confused with a high-level advantage creator on the offensive end, with averages of 3.2 turnovers per game and just 2.9 assists. Still, his athleticism and hustle will help him adjust as he continues to refine his skillset.

Defense

Defensively, Holland leverages his length, high activity and physical build to make an impact as a disruptive presence. He could reasonably guard positions 1-4 with quick hands, strength, and sharp anticipation and strength. He used those gifts to average over 2.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game with the Ignite.

Holland can defend three positions immediately and potentially slide up to four as he develops physically. In addition to moving his feet well defensively, his ability to absorb contact from offensive players and still stay attached will be a key factor in his defensive adjustment and one he should be able to handle well.

Holland is a standout on-ball defender, which should translate well at the next level.

Looking Ahead

Holland does have big question marks in his game, primarily his jump shot. His upside as an offensive creator isn’t clear, but make no mistake—he is a talented two-way player who comes in as an archetypal wing for today’s NBA and projects to be a top-five pick in this upcoming draft.

Holland’s high motor, defensive presence, and quality finishing will help him fit in immediately. If the jumper ever does come around, Holland could see multiple All-Star bids in his future.
