Sports Business Classroom is excited to announce that The Starters will be featured speakers in our Social Media, PR and Digital Branding major. Coordinating Producer Matt Osten, Coordinating Director Jason Doyle and on-air broadcasters J.E. Skeets, Tas Melas, Trey Kerby and Leigh Ellis will deliver their unique cross-platform expertise to Social 201, a class that explores multi-platform content and digital branding.

Experts at utilizing social media to connect with fans, The Starters will discuss how they used social to grow their own brand (from their origin as the popular Basketball Jones podcast) to how they currently design interactive, cross-platform franchises for their daily television show on NBA TV.

Both multifaceted and multi-platform, The Starters’ presence can be found daily on NBA TV and on iTunes and Google Play with their renowned podcast “The Drop”. Their content is featured across social platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. This season also marked the debut of their weekly Twitter broadcast, which airs live within the app each Tuesday.

With over six million podcast downloads this season alone, The Starters have shown the ability to dominate online as well as extend their brand to new avenues, including Twitter’s live content initiative.

The Starters crew brings a unique take on NBA games, players, news, style and strategy—on and off the floor. They connect with fans, appeal to players and offer analysis and commentary within a free-flowing format that is as versatile as it is engaging. From “Crossfire” to “Spice up Your Wiki”, The Starters continually create fast-paced, social-ready franchises to live across their many platforms. And what might their next platform be? Possibly their own dictionary if you count the amount of words, catch phrases and jargon the show has infused into everyday basketball conversation.

If you think all of that is impressive, think back to this moment: when Trey Kerby was interviewing Kyrie Irving about his series-clinching shot in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, Irving looked into the camera and said, “Shout out to your team too, The Starters. Real talk, I love your show.”

This year, The Starters will take their show on the road to Las Vegas during Summer League as well as bring their one-of-a-kind perspectives to the Social Media, PR and Digital Branding major at Sports Business Classroom.
