SPORTS BUSINESS CLASSROOM ANNOUNCES 2021 SCHEDULE

Sports Business Classroom, the week-long immersive educational event run within the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, NV, has announced its 2021 schedule.

Sports Business Classroom begins with a welcome reception and introductory activities late in the afternoon on Monday, August 9, and concludes on Saturday, August 14. During the program, students will be immersed on educational and hands-on opportunities.

“We are inside the arena, immersed in the NBA Summer League,” said Larry Coon, the program’s General Manager. “We bring the cream of the crop from Summer League to SBC to teach, speak and interact with students,” he said. “We also put the students in the arena for learning, hands-on activities, and networking with industry personnel.”

This year’s program allows students to choose one of three majors. Organized like a college, every student gets a broad baseline of knowledge in the program’s “GE” sections, and takes a deeper dive into their chosen major later in the program. In the League Salary Cap major, students receive additional instruction on the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement directly from the author of the famous Salary Cap FAQ. In the Scouting, Video and Analytics major, students work with scouts and analytics experts to create tangible work products. In the Media & Broadcast major, students can take advantage of hands-on opportunities in broadcasting and podcasting.

This year’s sports Business Classroom features a week-long term project, in which groups of students are assigned to NBA teams, and have to develop goals and strategies for their team moving forward. They present their analysis to SBC’s expert panel for feedback, and then they engage in the program’s famous Mock Trade Deadline, in which they negotiate with other teams and engage in transactions to accomplish their goals. After the exercise they present their results to SBC’s expert panel for further feedback, and one team is declared the winner.

“If you want to jump-start your career in basketball, there is no better place to be than Sports Business Classroom,” said Coon.

Registration for Sports Business Classroom closes on July 31. Prospective students can find additional information and program information at SportsBusinessClassroom.com.
