Sports Business Classroom is excited to announce that Emmy Award winner Amina Hussein, Coordinating Producer at ESPN, will be a featured speaker in our TV, Online and In-Arena Broadcast major at the 2017 Sports Business Classroom (SBC) in Las Vegas.
Every Sports Business Classroom student will learn about television and broadcast production in the GE sessions. Those choosing the TV, Online and In-Arena Broadcast major will focus on in-depth broadcast production content during the last three days of the program.
As a featured speaker at the 2017 Sports Business Classroom, Hussein will be part of an all-star lineup of sports business executives that are teachers and presenters. Last year’s SBC featured NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Washington Wizards Head Coach Scott Brooks, the Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey, Ned Cohen of the Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors GM Masai Ujiri and the Vegas Summer League’s very own Warren LeGarie.
SBC Speaker Bio: Amina Hussein – Coordinating Producer at ESPN
Amina Hussein is an Emmy-award winning coordinating producer for ESPN, currently serving as one of the company’s top NBA producers. Since the start of the 2012-13 NBA season, she has overseen NBA Countdown – ABC’s and ESPN’s popular NBA pre-game show– which is produced at ESPN’s Los Angeles Production Center.
Hussein manages a high-profile cast as well as a staff of producers, associate producers, production assistants and researchers. During Hussein’s tenure at NBA Countdown, she has produced several of the franchise’s first on-location shows, including at the site of Super Bowl XLVII, the on-site during the NBA Western Conference Finals and managed Basketball Hall of Famer and cultural icon Earvin “Magic” Johnson when he was an ESPN analyst on the show.
Hussein’s work during the 2016 College Football Megacast earned her a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Trans-Media Sports Coverage.
Before being promoted to her current role, Hussein led production efforts on the Sports Emmy Award-winning NFL Sunday Countdown, where she managed a team of 10 on-air personalities as well as reporters in the field for Countdown.
Prior to Countdown, Hussein spent three years as a coordinating producer for SportsCenter and NFL Live from July 2008 – August 2011, during which time she helped launch the weekday morning SportsCenter. Her variety of responsibilities included organizing and evaluating the content for assigned sports news stories, and determining the agendas and flow of stories. She also had oversight of the production and technical staffs. Hussein assumed the role of NFL Live coordinating producer at the beginning of the 2010 NFL season, making content decisions and working closely with the NFL analysts to determine discussion topics.
Hussein previously served as an ESPN talent producer. From February 2005 through June 2007, she worked on SportsCenter, NFL Live, and Sunday NFL Countdown, maintaining an extensive rolodex of athletes, coaches, managers, team executives and celebrities. She participated in daily editorial meetings, suggesting story ideas and potential guests. She also coordinated guest bookings between all studio shows and ESPN Original Entertainment programs while managing, training and developing entry-level Talent Producers and developing a web-based program for guest bookings and profile management. In June 2007, Hussein was promoted to Manager where she was charged with the implementation and oversight of guest bookings for studio production news and information shows on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNEWS.
Hussein, a native of Oakland, Calif., originally joined ESPN in May 2003 as a producer for ESPN Radio’s SportsBash.
Prior to ESPN, Hussein spent three and a half years (Dec. 2000 – May 2003) at KNBR/KTCT Radio in San Francisco as a producer for the Rod Brooks Show and the Oakland Raiders pre- and post-game shows where she was responsible for all content and guests. She also facilitated post-game on-site guest appearances for Raiders and Golden State Warriors games.
A graduate of Holy Names University, Hussein earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and was member of the women’s basketball team. She has been a member of the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) since 2005 and the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) since 2003.
